I am an experienced designer and design manager. I have kept current with technological advancements to remain competitive and cost-effective. I have a reputation as an efficient project manager, bringing projects in on budget and on time. I would be a valuable asset to your organization.

July 1981 — June 2007 (Restarted July 2015)| Stephen Stanley Graphic Design, West Coast
As owner, I am responsible for all aspects of a design business: award-winning design services, sales and promotion, business development, budget and contract negotiation, project and time management, and vendor supervision. I personally consult with top corporate management (Chair, CEO, CFO and corporate legal, accounting, sales and PR professionals). I have employed full-time design assistants and contracted freelance production personnel. I have successfully managed multiple projects; as many as six annual reports (and other smaller projects) at one time and from 15 to 20 major projects a year. In 1993, I moved to Eugene, Oregon where I continued to freelance while working at various design management positions.

June 2007 — July 2015 | Down To Earth Distributors, Inc., Eugene
As Marketing Graphic Designer I was responsible for the design and production management of product catalogs (including product photography), marketing support materials, product identity and labeling, packaging, and website maintenance.

Instructor, Lane Community College
Fall 2006 — Art 225: Digital Illustration (Adobe Illustrator CS2).
Spring 2007 — Art 216: Digital Design Tools (Adobe Creative Suite CS2).

July 2001 — March 2006 | Professional Trade Publications, Eugene
As Design Director I was responsible for the design and production management of PaintPRO and Concrete Decor magazines (for the painting and decorative concrete trades respectively), all in-house advertising, trade-show booth design, and marketing collateral. I supervised one full-time web designer.

March 1996 — April 2001 | Aster Publishing Corporation, Eugene
As Design Director, I was responsible for the design and production management of Mercator’s World and Biblio (internationally-circulated consumer magazines, published bi-monthly), all in-house advertising, marketing collateral (direct mail campaigns were handled elsewhere), and the websites. I supervised one full-time graphic designer.

March 1995 — February 1996 | Northwest Media, Eugene
As Design Director, I was responsible for all graphic images and projects produced by Northwest Media and its subsidiary companies, which included graphics for video productions. I also served as Art Director (as well as interim Managing Editor for two issues) for The Business News, a bi-weekly newspaper reporting on Lane County business. I supervised one full-time graphic designer.

March — April 1995 | TCI Cablevision of Oregon, Eugene
At this part-time position, I used my expertise with desktop computer systems and graphic arts software to design, edit and produce still-frame promotion and advertising for TCI projects and clients. This utilized Multi-Imaging Systems’s still-frame production software and Lumina image creation software. I left TCI to work full-time at Northwest Media

October 1974 — June 1981 | Unigraphics, Inc., San Francisco
Unigraphics was a well respected design office that specialized in corporate communications, annual reports, and identity programs. As Senior Designer, I reported directly to the firm’s partners while supervising two staff design assistants and up to three production employees. Acting as account executive on many projects, I provided concept-to-delivery service. I worked hands-on with corporate management to establish design concepts, budgets and schedules, and to accomplish strategic objectives. I interviewed, contracted, and art directed photographers, illustrators, typographers, and printers.

Experience Highlights
Design Management
Both as a sole proprietor and as a senior designer/account representative with a major San Francisco graphic design firm, I have acquired in-depth experience operating and managing the business of design and marketing. This includes: sales and promotion; business development; conceptualizing, market targeting, proposals, presentations and contract negotiations; budget and schedule agreements; design criteria analysis; design presentation and response; design implementation; budget and schedule maintenance; creative personnel management and art direction; production personnel supervision; quality control of manufacturing; final project analysis; invoicing and negotiation; and follow-up client service.

Magazine Design
I design and produce publications using the latest computer-to-plate (CTP) technology. This increases efficiency, saves money, and allows better reproduction. Production time management becomes a key element when working with tight schedules. I have a reputation for innovative design that is efficiently produced: understanding the parameters of a budget and creating for the maximum utilization of the financial resources of a project. I have remained current with graphic arts technological developments throughout my career and was among the first graphic designers to use a personal computer. I am committed to computerized production, have a thorough command of the Macintosh computer system and am proficient with graphic arts software.

Book and Website Design
I have designed and produced numerous book and catalog projects, using both foreign and domestic printing companies. I have experience designing multimedia presentations and websites.

Annual Report Design and Production
I have designed nearly 100 annual reports and companion support publications. I have experience in every area of corporate communications publications.
